About Pender Island
Pender Island is one of the Southern Gulf Islands located between
Vancouver and Vancouver Island.  Pender is actually two islands,
North and South Pender. They are separated by a canal which is
spanned by a quaint wooden trestle bridge.  The islands were once
connected and the canal was created in 1903 to assist marine traffic.
Pender Island is a beautiful island blessed with a stunning
landscape of woodlands, many accessible beaches, temperate climate
and abundant wildlife, including seals, otters, Orcas, Bald Eagles and
a wide variety of interesting sea life.  The island also has some
fantastic walking and interpretive trails where you can either catch a
view of nearby mountains and other islands, learn more about local
flora and fauna or even happen upon an Orca sighting on their
migration travels past Pender. The wide variety of trails range from
beautiful strolls through forested areas to more strenuous hikes to
mountain tops with breathtaking views of the Gulf Islands.
Pender Island is the home of many artisans and as a result has
great art studios and galleries which welcome visitors.  There are also
all the amenities one might need on the island including a grocery
store, cafés, a book store,  a bakery, a liquor store and a pharmacy.
During the summer months there is a farmer’s market where you can
sample home made cheeses, fresh herb balms, buy jewelry, fresh
breads and of course, local produce.  The island has a vineyard where
you can sample and buy their vintages.
You can explore the history of the island by visiting the local
museum or taking a self guided historical drive. Pender Island is
accessible by B.C. Ferries through either the Vancouver terminal at
Tsawwassen or the Victoria terminal at Schwartz Bay. There is also
float plane service from Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle.  We are sure
you will enjoy the peaceful, easy going island life that Pender has to
offer.
